Things I Never Thought I’d Say

I was originally thinking that I would just accumulate a list and make one post, but it seems that this will be something I add to continuously. Open mouth. Insert foot.

  • “Sometimes we have to wait. This is a valuable life lesson.” ~ Said to V when attempting to explain the need for patience. As the words came out of my mouth, I was simultaneously thinking, “Really?! You’re using the phrase ‘valuable life lesson’ with a 5-year-old?! Epic. Fail.”
  • “Wow. That’s some impressive farting.” ~ Said to N in response to his commenting that he woke himself up the night before with his own farts.
  • “I believe this is the part of the conversation where you say ‘Thank you,’ and I say ‘You’re welcome.'” ~ Comment to N who was being a little grumpy. Perhaps sarcasm is not the best way to instill manners…

  1. To (hopefully) make you feel a bit better: married mom in suburbia has said:
    1. Patience is waiting without complaining…we’re all waiting, you should not be complaining
    2. Sarcasm doesn’t work that well to instill action, either. “When I said, “it’s time to put your shoes on and get your coat” What I meant was “it’s time to put your shoes on and get your coat.”
